Great Possession. Supreme success.

— I Ching, Hexagram 14 (大有), 元亨。

Great Possession. Supreme success.

Great possession is not about having more. It is about what you do with what you have. Fire in heaven illuminates everything — the superior person uses their resources to curb evil and further good. Wealth, talent, influence — these are not achievements. They are tests of character.

Hexagram 14, Da You (Great Possession), is the only hexagram whose judgment is simply 'Supreme success' (yuan heng). Fire above heaven illuminates all things, and the superior person curbs evil and furthers good. The hexagram is associated with abundance that is used wisely — the ruler who possesses much but uses it to benefit all. Possession is not measured by accumulation but by distribution. This hexagram has been consulted by countless generations seeking to understand their moment in the flow of change. Its wisdom lies not in predicting outcomes but in revealing the pattern of forces at work, so that the person who consults it can act with awareness rather than reaction.
