I Ching Hexagram 1, 乾 (Qián), represents The Creative (Heaven).

1. Judgment (卦辭 Guàcí)
乾：元亨，利貞。
Oriens Editorial Translation: Great success; steadfastness is favorable.
2. Image (象 Xiàng / Xiang commentary)
天行健,君子以自强不息。
James Legge: Heaven, in its motion, (gives the idea of) strength. The superior man, in accordance with this, nerves himself to ceaseless activity.
3. Line Statements (爻辭 Yáocí)
Line 1 of 6 (from the bottom):
初九：潛龍，勿用。
James Legge: In the first (or lowest) NINE, undivided, (we see its subject as) the dragon lying hid (in the deep). It is not the time for active doing.
Line 2 of 6 (from the bottom):
九二：見龍在田，利見大人。
James Legge: In the second NINE, undivided, (we see its subject as) the dragon appearing in the field. It will be advantageous to meet with the great man.
Line 3 of 6 (from the bottom):
九三：君子終日乾乾，夕惕若，厲，无咎。
James Legge: In the third NINE, undivided, (we see its subject as) the superior man active and vigilant all the day, and in the evening still careful and apprehensive. (The position is) dangerous, but there will be no mistake.
Line 4 of 6 (from the bottom):
九四：或躍在淵，无咎。
James Legge: In the fourth NINE, undivided, (we see its subject as the dragon looking) as if he were leaping up, but still in the deep. There will be no mistake.
Line 5 of 6 (from the bottom):
九五：飛龍在天，利見大人。
James Legge: In the fifth NINE, undivided, (we see its subject as) the dragon on the wing in the sky. It will be advantageous to meet with the great man.
Line 6 of 6 (from the bottom):
上九：亢龍有悔。
James Legge: In the sixth (or topmost) NINE, undivided, (we see its subject as) the dragon exceeding the proper limits. There will be occasion for repentance.

4. Modern Interpretation (Oriens commentary)
This is an Oriens interpretation, not part of the Zhouyi text.
The Creative can prompt a careful question about initiative: where an undertaking actually stands in its own development, and what a beginning stage calls for rather than what it guarantees. The dragon imagery reads here as a figure-level description of staged growth — including the late-stage warning against overreach — not as leadership advice.
